VOLUNTEERING
FIRST NIGHT RALEIGH Artsplosure recruits 400 or more volunteers for First Night Raleigh. Families have found volunteering a fun and rewarding way to celebrate New Year's Eve together. High School students can also fulfill community service requirements by volunteering. A core of dedicated site managers is responsible for operations in as many as 30 downtown performance venues. Site managers make up the backbone of the event, working 6-8 hours on December 31. Each site manager is assigned a production assistant to help with set-up, breakdown, and hospitality for performers. Button Checkers also assist them in crowd control, and are assigned to provide general event information to the public during performances. "The People's Procession" takes to the streets at 6:00 in the evening. Procession workers play roles in Rhea, the larger-than-life puppet who is the Procession's centerpiece. Procession assistants also help to coordinate other participatory elements of the Procession. Children's Activities Helpers work the afternoon "Children's Celebration" to set up and assist with creative activities for kids.
ARTSPLOSURE - THE RALEIGH ARTS FESTIVAL One hundred seventy-five artists arrive early Saturday morning to set up the Art Market, and volunteers are neeeded as early as 6:00 am to help with everything from load-in to helping to manage the Art Market to "booth sitting" - through the end of the event on Sunday evening. Other festival jobs include set-up and break-down assistance, hospitality assistants for performers, artists and volunteers and drivers to provide transportation for performers. Lots of enthusiastic volunteers who love working with children supervise fun craft activities for Kidsplosure in Moore Square Park. Registration begins in mid-April.
