Crowd at Artsplosure watching performers

Volunteers are the cornerstone of Artsplosure – we couldn’t do it without their support! Please consider donating a few hours of your time to one of our signature events, and help support arts and culture in your community. Volunteer registration for each festival occurs online. Visit or for details on how to volunteer for an upcoming festival.

First Night® Raleigh

Volunteer registration for First Night® Raleigh begins in mid-November. To be added to the volunteer mailing list to be informed of future volunteer opportunities, email your name and address via our contact form.

Artsplosure recruits more than 350 volunteers for First Night Raleigh. Families have found volunteering a fun and rewarding way to celebrate New Year’s Eve together. Most volunteer shifts last between 2.5 and 3 hours. High school students can also fulfill community service requirements by volunteering for the event.

There are several ways to spend your volunteer time at First Night Raleigh. A corps of dedicated site managers is responsible for operations in as many as 30 downtown performance venues. Site managers make up the backbone of the event, working 6-8 hours on December 31. Button Checkers assist them in crowd control, checking for admission buttons at venue entrances and providing general event information to the public during performances.

Volunteers for The People’s Procession play roles in Rhea, the larger-than-life puppet who is the Procession’s centerpiece, while Procession assistants help to coordinate other participatory elements. You can also volunteer to work the afternoon Children’s Celebration to set up and assist with creative activities for kids.

Artsplosure – The Raleigh Arts Festival

Artsplosure depends on as many as 400 volunteers to present its signature spring arts festival the third weekend each May. Most volunteer shifts last 3 hours.

One hundred seventy-five artists arrive early Saturday morning to set up the Art Market, and volunteers are needed as early as 6:00 a.m. to help with everything from load-in to managing the Art Market to booth sitting – through the end of the event on Sunday evening.

Other festival jobs include set-up and break-down assistance, hospitality assistants for performers, artists and volunteers, and drivers to provide transportation for performers.

Lots of enthusiastic volunteers who love working with children supervise fun craft activities for Kidsplosure in Moore Square Park.

Registration begins in mid-April. To receive a registration form in the mail, email your name and address via our contact form.

Pre-Festival Assistance

In the few weeks prior to each festival, help is needed in the Artsplosure office, preparing children’s craft materials, moving boxes of supplies, assisting with mailings and similar tasks. If you are available during the week in early May or late December, Artsplosure can use your help! When registering to volunteer, simply indicate your availability.
