Artsplosure Brings Joel Martin’s Master Class to Area High School Students

Artsplosure’s 37th annual presentation of Artsplosure – The Raleigh Arts Festival would not be complete without continuing its tradition of community involvement by bringing musical performers and artistic inspirations to area high school students.

This year, composer and conductor Joel Martin will host a master class with the jazz ensemble and symphonic bands at both Southeast Raleigh Magnet High School and Enloe Magnet High School. Martin will share the transformative power of music making with the students of each school during the week prior to Artsplosure – The Raleigh Arts Festival 2016.

An accomplished jazz and classical musician, conductor and composer, Martin is sure to make a profound effect on the musical dialogue of his master class students as they learn from one of the world’s best!

"I plan on sharing the wonders of improvisation with the quest for knowledge, and how it can positively impact one’s creativity as well as enhance personal and artistic growth. We will also discuss these points within the framework of the music business. The lessons learned will be essential for success and personal happiness in the world. Over the years many people have shared their lessons and wisdom in life. I listened to them and applied what I learned to my career and life. I continue to pay it forward by giving back to a new generation of artists." said Martin when asked about working with students.

The master classes will conclude with Martin joining both bands on the Artsplosure Main Stage on Fayetteville St. for a live performance of select works on Saturday, May 21st. Martin will join Southeast High School’s jazz ensemble on stage at 12:00 pm with Enloe High School’s jazz ensemble to follow at 1:00 pm. Afterwards, Martin will return to Artsplosure’s City Plaza Main Stage to perform his original work “JAZZICAL Rocks!” at 2 pm, which is sure to dazzle audiences and continue to inspire our next generation of musicians!
