Tech x Art: Silent Disco
Silent discos have taken the world by storm in recent years, but did you know that their origins can be traced back to a 1967 Japanese Sci-Fi story called The Summer of 1993? Silent discos were first executed in the 90s as a form of eco-activism before being officially named at 2005’s Bonnaroo music festival. And now, they have become a part of the modern zeitgeist.
Continuing in the tradition of hi-tech low-volume entertainment, Artsplosure teamed up with local silent disco group New Wave Sound Company and local DJs Luxe Posh , JOB , Rhymic , and Tapioca Red for a NYE dance party for the ages thanks to our sponsor Lenovo.
We caught up with Kanaan Wenstrup, co-founder of New Sound Company, to talk about his relationship with technology and art. Kanaan had this to say: “Technology amplifies art by providing innovative tools and techniques for creators to express themselves — bringing their ideas to life in new and exciting ways. It enables designs to be more interactive, immersive, and responsive, offering fresh experiences and engagement opportunities for the audience. Additionally, technology provides greater accessibility to art, which allows more people to view and appreciate it."
As a non-profit art company, we believe that art should be accessible to all. That's why we are constantly exploring new ways to use technology to make art more accessible, interactive, and engaging. Whether it's through our Spring Arts Festival, virtual art exhibits, or interactive installations, we are always pushing the boundaries of what is possible with technology and art.
In the end, we believe that art and technology are two sides of the same coin. They both have the power to inspire, engage, and transform our world in meaningful ways. And by bringing them together, we can create truly innovative and impactful art experiences that enrich our lives and connect us to one another.
