Artists Announced for Art Market at Wide Open Bluegrass 2014
We couldn't be more excited about the talent we're show casing at this year's Art Market at Wide Open Bluegrass 2014.
The list of artists is below, along with photos of their work and links to their sites.
The WOB art market is an intimate showcase, designed to recognize North Carolina’s talented and enthusiastic art community and feature unique artisans from across the United States. Local artists and craftsmen, and those who sell works that will appeal to a music-loving audience are encouraged. The World of Bluegrass event will attract over 6,000 national and international traditional music performers, presenters, and fans — in addition to over 75,000 local attendees anticipated for the two-day Wide Open Bluegrass festival.
We look forward to seeing all of these artists October 3 and 4, between the Martin Street and Hargett Street block in Downtown Raleigh, as apart of Wide Open Bluegrass 2014.

I fabricate each piece you see. I really dig enamel, fibers, copper, found objects, sterling silver, brass, cold connections, soldering, paper, ceramic beads by Elaine Ray and so much more. I wouldn’t call myself a mixed-media artist…yet; I am working on it.
Eduardo Lapetina
Chapel Hill, NC
eduardolapetina.com
Eduardo Lapetina is largely self-taught and constantly experiments in his studio. His ambition with his paintings is to use symbolic shapes and colors to express his deepest emotions and passion for life. This leads him to apply paint to the canvas in unusual ways -- by pouring, splashing, dripping, and scratching. His paintings also require layers upon layers of paint to create a sensuous and turbulent surface texture that is as vital and as complicated as life itself.

A few years ago I was looking through a book I had on the Blues. For fun and practice I started some drawings of these musicians. I first saw them as interesting character studies but as I worked on the drawings I began to think about more than just the interesting features and wanted to show the more personal nature of the subject, the reflection, the contemplation, and the intensity involved in their playing. In a lot of my work I am trying to create the “posed” look of these photographs but with color and maybe a more contemporary sensibility.

I like to create art that resonates with the quieter, more reflective nature of our being. Voluminous clouds, lapping waves, or a stooped, solitary tree evoke a momentary desire for contemplation and solitude. It seeks to connect at a deeper level.
