Join us Aug. 9 for "2nd Sunday CITY mARTket Fair"
After the success of its inceptive July event, Artsplosure is excited to continue its partnership with Hakan Properties on its “2nd Sunday CITY mARTket Fair” on Sunday, August 9 from 10 a.m. through 4:00 pm Once again, the fair will take place in historic City Market located at 215 Wolfe Street, Raleigh. Both Artsplosure and City Market executives are thrilled with the success of the first fair.
“It’s an opportunity to bring to the community on a monthly basis a little of what makes our namesake spring festival so special” said Artsplosure Executive Director Michael Lowder. “Artsplosure is one of the Southeast’s most prestigious and competitive art and craft exhibitions, and we envision ‘2nd Sunday’ becoming an equally anticipated event for area art lovers.”
With just over 20 local artists around the breezy cobblestone streets in City Market, patrons were able to shop ceramics, jewelry, painting, photography and more original works of art. While adults and children alike enjoyed the participatory dance inside Market Hall, children were most excited for the make-and-take crafts that Artsplosure children’s programming is known for. Patrons were overheard saying it was the perfect “Sunday activity that both we as parents and our kids can both enjoy.” Children can certainly expect new art-making activities at this month’s event as well with beads for jewelry and more fun crafts.
On August 9, patrons can expect even more artists and a slightly extended footprint within the City Market streets. At 1:00 pm, Artsplosure is excited to welcome NC Opera singers Lora Fabio and John Cashwell, accompanied by pianist Kate Lewis, for a “pop up” opera performance. In addition, new dance groups will be inside Market Hall and invite patrons to ballroom dance in the style of swing and foxtrot, which adults and children of all ages can join in on. USA Dance’s Curtis Bass will teach East Coast Swing at 2:30 pm and the Cha Cha at 3:30 pm for free in an effort to promote their mission of bringing the pleasure and benefit of ballroom dance to the public.
This free-to-the-public art market fair will continue every second Sunday through October.
